Today I am here to tell a piece of my own experience as a manager in an IT Industry.
Myself, as a first time manager, I was stumbled upon the fact that I was not a manager who can drive for changes, persuade fellow team members, look for values and agility — overall a Manager who has every single opportunity to dirty my hands into the ten cents of management.
Team Structure
I was appointed as a Manager where the team consisted of variety of personas who came from variety of background and from variety of demographic region. The team size was approximately 50 and counting.
Problems I faced:
- I didn't know much about each and every team member — whether about their likes and dislikes, their professional experiences, the role they are doing and how they are contributing towards the bigger organizational goals.
- I didn't know how to persuade them at times of distress or any escalations and instill positivity in them as i myself was expecting someone else to do the same for me ( I didn't grow from a team member to a manager emotionally)
- I was not aware of how to predict the consequences of my team members’ customer engagement — be it positive or negative. This inturn gave me more flutters and anxiety on no fault on mine.
I thought I have to overcome these. I will tell you on how I overcame these first time manager’s gitters on my next post.
There is a first time for everything — until we try!
Till then, I welcome all the suggestions and ideas from all my readers.
Signing off for now ❤
